The Great Lakes Area Tribal Health Board (GLATHB), in partnership with the Indian Health Service (IHS), recently hosted a Pre-Negotiation Meeting in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The meeting brought together Tribal leaders and representatives from across the region to prepare for upcoming negotiations and strengthen collaboration with federal partners.

This gathering provided an important space for Tribes to discuss priorities, share perspectives, and align strategies ahead of formal negotiations. Topics included funding considerations, program management, and opportunities to enhance Tribal self-governance.

GLATHB was honored to welcome IHS Deputy Director Ben Smith, whose participation underscored the importance of federal-tribal partnership. His engagement allowed for direct dialogue with Tribal representatives and reinforced IHS’s commitment to supporting Tribal health systems.
