The Indian Health Service (IHS) is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Director’s Awards, which honor the individuals and teams across the Indian Health Service, Tribal, and Urban (I/T/U) system who demonstrate exceptional commitment, innovation, and leadership. These awards celebrate work that advances the IHS mission and improves the health and well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
This year introduces an exciting new category:
- IHS Buford Rolin National Achievement Award – Created to recognize outstanding contributions from a Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI) grant recipient or program. This honor highlights excellence in diabetes prevention, treatment, detection, policy change, mentorship, and community impact.
Other award categories include:
- IHS Director’s Award (Individual or Team)
- Patient Safety Award (Individual or Team)
- Customer Service Award (Individual or Team)
- Luana Reyes Leadership Award (Individual – recognizing a rising leader whose work reflects her vision and legacy)
Nominations can be submitted for individuals or teams, including direct reports, peers, partners, and colleagues who made a significant impact in 2024.
Deadline: All nominations must be submitted by Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Area and Headquarters staff should follow their internal review and approval processes before submitting to the National Director’s Awards Committee.
Save the Date: The 2025 Director’s Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, December 5, 2025, at IHS Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland.
